9. Classification of languages - I) The Altaic family

 

 

  • Spread through several waves of migration during the 1st Millennium A.D. from (probably) an area to the east or northeast of Central Asia in a western an southwestern direction.

  • Three branches: Turkic, Mongolian and Manchu.

  • Turkic languages official in Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrghyzstan.

  • Mongolian languages spoken in Mongolia, China, Russia (Kalmyk, Buryat).
