Dr. Don McGuirk is an avid map collector with a special interest in the
mythical "Sea of the West." From 1700 to 1780 some maps of North America
depicted an inland sea of enormous proportion. The origin of this geography
and its unique history is often unknown, even to the most avid map
enthusiast.

Don McGuirk is a retired pediatrician, map collector and independent
researcher living in Denver, Colorado. He is a past president of the Rocky
Mountain Map Society. He has authored the electronic book Mer de l'Ouest,
the Last Great Cartographic Myth. His particular interest in mythical
geographies now spans well over two decades. He has given lectures on the
cartography at the British Library, the Society for the History of
Discoveries, and the Colorado Academy for Lifelong Learning.

An announcement with directions and parking instructions was mailed to all
current RMMS Members. Members may also visit the Members Only page of the
RMMS Web site for details. If you wish to become an RMMS member, please
