to subscribe and post information relating to the history of the map,
and bibliographical information, regardless of nationality, discipline,
profession, or academic standing.
The only requirements are that the
information added relates to the study of early maps, is correct, and

We would like to build an international
scholarly community. Although subscription is open to anyone and
name is optional, we ask all
contributors to identify themselves properly when sending a message.
All messages should concern some aspect
the history of the map. This normally means any maps that are no longer
current; in the Western tradition, this includes even most maps made in
20th century. The history of maps, or the history of cartography,
all aspects of their creation, distribution.
The List does not exclude any particular
topic or methodological or theoretical approach, but celebrates all
maps as cultural, scientific, or artistic artifacts.

Map history is necessarily
interdisciplinary. The List is not limited by discipline. The
art historians, historians of science, geographers, literary scholars,
historians of the book, social and cultural historians, philosophers,
sociologists, and so on, is actively encouraged.
