From 1700 to 1780 some maps of North America depicted an inland sea of enormous proportion. The origin of this geography and its unique history is often unknown, even to the most avid map enthusiast. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"'>Don McGuirk is a retired pediatrician, map collector and independent researcher living in Denver, Colorado. He is a past president of the Rocky Mountain Map Society. He has authored the electronic book Mer de l’Ouest, the Last Great Cartographic Myth. His particular interest in mythical geographies now spans well over two decades.
