Alföld Rt.

Investments, Informatics Developing and Servicing Company Limited by Shares

Company Profile

The company was established on 1 of April, 1992 as an exclusive organisation, with a share capital of 12 million HUF. It went into operation with 5 people and at the moment the company has 22 employees. It runs three offices: Investments, Information Technology and Systems Technology, all led by separate directors. The employees have a professional background in different fields of information technology and in civil service. Depending upon its assignments and through its wide professional connections, the company also employs independent experts (settlement and area development, sociology, epidemics, and public health care, public safety, civil defence and environmental protection, etc.)

The Investments Office deals primarily with professional advisory assignments, draws up projects and carries out feasibility studies. It attracts possible funding sources in areas controlled by local authorities and accommodates domestic and foreign investment's companies. The Office operates a showroom for office- and information technology, provides for general trading and marketing activities and manages the various products of the company.

The profile of the company is primarily characterised by information technology, within this spatial informatics. We are no advocates for a special platform, but try to install systems, through a sound knowledge of the GIS-market, that are best-suited to the users needs). We have references in the field of local government, research and education (two educational systems had been installed in two secondary schools /"Neumann János" Budapest & "Vásárhelyi Pál" Szolnok/).

Alföld Rt. is an Intergraph Solution Centre of INTERGRAPH but uses other systems like MapInfo and Arc/Info as well.).

Apart from PC-based applications, the company promotes UNIX systems, workstations that offer a more powerful range of services and type 4GL data base management. We provide other, GIS-related services: digitising and supplementary operations (graphic data conversions, conversions between different projection systems, etc.) customised according to the specific needs of the customers.

Alföld Rt. offers complete solutions and, as a prime contractor, issues an overall warranty on powerful equipment characteristic of GIS (data base management, hardware platforms and GIS distribution of complete digital topographical data bases (OTAB - Hungary's 1:100 000 reference map), the adjustment of various text databases. We undertake traditional assignments in information technology (organisation screening, systems organisation, program development, etc.)

The scope of activities requires serious considerations in systems technology, too. In a number of cases we need special equipment (peripherals: scanners, plotters, graphic screens). Their configuration, purchase, fitting and maintenance is the task of our Systems Technology Office. Thus, to install a rather complex system in spatial technology the company is able to transport and fit in the complete set of required equipment, to warrant its maintenance, and fix possible faults. In certain cases there is a need to connect workstations that are capable of receiving a large quantity of graphic or text information and which may also be found at different locations. As an example, planning and realisation of spatial informatics systems at a great distance from each other through standard X.25 or, alternatively, a rented line can be mentioned. These systems will be capable of long-distance data transmission.

Alföld Rt. has a diverse and growing circle of customers: local governments (Csopak, Törökszentmiklós, Tiszaszentimre, Szolnok, Harkány, Jászberény, etc.) land use planning and zoning, real estate inventory; national agencies (Hungarian Academy of Sciences Regional Developing Institute City of Kecskemét) environmental monitoring, epidemology, census etc., education - including secondary school level teaching of GIS (John von Neumann Secondary School of Economics and Postal Services, Budapest); development project of the Middle-Tisza Region in Hungary.

Alföld Rt. would be most interested to hear from any organisation or individual in the GIS field who would like to discuss further the services outlined above.
