Outliers of Renaissance Cartography
An examination of the outliers of any category is valuable in testing
the adequacy of definitions and exploring the limits of knowledge.
Proposals are welcomed for papers on Western manuscript or printed
maps made between 1450 and 1650 that incorporate material from
non-Western cultures, that show the world from unusual perspectives or
in unusual projections, that incorporate non-standard geography, and
that have atypical iconographic programs or other features that set
them apart from their peers. Preference will be given to proposals
devoted to maps that have not previously been analyzed in detail.
Please send the title and abstract (250 words or less) of your
proposed paper by October 1, 2016, to Chet Van Duzer,
chet.van.duzer at gmail.com, and Julia McClure,J.McClure at Warwick.ac.uk
Proposers of paper not accepted to the panel will have ample time to
submit their proposals directly to ICHC. Proposals accepted to the
panel will be submitted together to the organizers of ICHC. If the
organizers do not accept the panel, they will nevertheless consider
the individual papers for inclusion in the general program.
