This event celebrates the ICA International Map Year.

Jerry Brotton is Professor of Renaissance
Studies at Queen Mary University of London, a
regular broadcaster on TV and radio and author
of books including 'Great Maps' and the bestselling
'A History of the World in Twelve Maps'.
Adam Lowe is the Director of Factum Arte and
founder of The Factum Foundation for Digital
Technology in Conservation.
Over the last decade Factum Arte has become a world leader in the digital capture and threedimensional
reproduction of historical maps, including the Gough map, the Hereford 'Mappa
Mundi', and the Vatican's 'Sala Bologna'. Their work is driven by a fascination with recording
surface data, and has broken new ground in cartographic restoration and research. In this talk
Factum's founder, Adam Lowe, and his long-time collaborator, Jerry Brotton, will discuss some
of the methods used, and showcase future cartographic projects.
