One of the Council sessions at the upcoming 2015 Depository Library Council Meeting and Federal Depository Library Conference will be on maps and map retention:
Mapping the Nation and Beyond: Maps from the Federal Government
Tuesday, October 20th, 10:30AM-12:00PM
As the United States is one of the world's largest producers of cartographic resources, maps have long been distributed through the Federal Depository Library Program. However, as these resources are increasingly going digital, depository libraries are weeding their historic paper maps in record numbers. This session will provide an overview of the types of maps distributed to libraries through the FDLP and other programs, compare and contrast paper versus online maps, and make the case for retaining and preserving paper maps.
Hallie Pritchett, University of Georgia
Carol McAuliffe, University of Florida
