Newberry Library
Graduate Scholar-in-Residence Program
If you study the humanities, the Newberry has something for you!

The Newberry Graduate Scholar-in-Residence program encourages PhD candidates in the humanities to conduct research in our collection and to join our community of scholars for a full academic year. We invite graduate students with advanced PhD candidacy to apply to be "in residence" at the Newberry for at least 10 hours per week from September to May. This will enable them to make good use of the collection and participate in the Newberry's intellectual community. Although the Newberry cannot offer remuneration to the Graduate Scholars-in-Residence, we can offer some privileges, including reserve carrel space for paged materials, access to the Newberry during extended hours, and opportunities to present work-in-progress to the Newberry's scholarly community.

All applicants are strongly encouraged to consult the Newberry's online catalog and collection guides before applying: www.newberry.org/catalogs-and-guides

Applications for the Graduate Scholar-in-Residence Program for the 2015-16 academic year are due on May 1, 2015. Applicants will be notified about their acceptance in June 2015. New Graduate Scholars-in-Residence should plan to begin their residencies in September 2015, so that they can join the new Long-Term Fellows in Fall Orientation activities.
