Call for Contributors

*British Virginia Maps*, edited by Dr. Leah Thomas at Virginia State
University, is a sub-series of *British Virginia,* the digital publisher of
colonial documents at Virginia Commonwealth University. *British Virginia
Maps* invites contributors to propose digital editions of individual maps
that feature “Virginia” in any of the various forms that the originally
British concept has taken from the sixteenth to the nineteenth
century. Each edition of *British Virginia Maps *will include a color,
searchable image of a single map accompanied by an essay that has undergone
blind peer review. The following scholarly editions are forthcoming: Henry
Briggs’s *The North Part of America* (London: Stansby, 1625), edited by
Leah Thomas; Lewis Evans’s *A General Map of the Middle British
Colonies *(Philadelphia:
Evans, 1755); and Thomas Pownall’s *A Map of the Middle British Colonies in
North America *(London: Almon, 1776), both edited by Joel Kovarsky.

*British Virginia* is a new series of scholarly editions of documents
touching on the colony. The series will eventually feature source ranging
from the sixteenth- and seventeenth-century literature of English
exploration to the 19th-century writing of loyalists and other Virginians
who continued to identify with Great Britain. *British Virginia* editions
appear principally in digital form, freely downloadable. The editorial
offices sit appropriately at the research university nearest both the falls
of the James River, and the site of the first English college planned for
this side of the Atlantic Ocean, Henricus Colledge.

Proposals to *British Virginia Maps* should clearly identify the map,
including its author, title, holding location, and, if applicable, its
