AGILE WORKSHOP - CALL FOR PAPERS: eXtended GIScience -
Theoretical, practical, and impactful opportunities of eXtended Realities
Description
The workshop is part of a recently funded initiative intended to create a network of researchers, educators, and practitioners interested in eXtended Realities research, the Metaverse, and GIScience. We expect that this initiative will further strengthen existing and facilitate new collaborations leading to a stronger presence of GIScience in the emerging field of eXtended Realities and its connection to spatial data science and GeoAI. We wish to create further momentum for long-term XR research and education opportunities; providing emerging scholars with a supportive networking environment and encouraging established scholars to seek further funding collaborations in large scale EU funding initiatives.
Workshop format
The workshop will be set off by a keynote, followed by a series of short position paper presentations. In an interactive session following the presentations where academic and societal impacts will be further discussed, we will jointly sketch a first draft of a GIScience impact agenda for XR research and education. Attending participants and others will be invited to further contribute to the evolving XR manifest in GIScience, and to other opportunities for joint funding initiatives.
Keynote
Ali Asadipour, Centre Lead, The Computer Science Research Centre,Royal College of Art, London, UK
Title. Intelligent, Immersive and Interactive Experiences: Transforming Spatial Data Science for Extreme Events Through Multi-Sensory Visualisation in XR
Bio. Asadipour leads as the founder and academic lead of the RCA's Computer Science Research Centre, specialising in Immersive Experiences and AI. His international influence is amplified by holding Professorial Visiting Fellowship positions at UNSW and KAIST, facilitating collaborations with esteemed global research labs and assuming pivotal roles in national knowledge exchange networks. Before joining RCA, he spearheaded interdisciplinary research groups at Warwick University, overseeing a multitude of nationally and internationally funded projects. He holds a PhD, MSc, and BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and Engineering, bringing over a decade of experience in both academia and industry as founder and director of tech-focused companies in Iran and United Kingdom, and holds IP and licences for immersive innovations.
