Call for Papers: Advancing Movement Data Science 2020
A GIScience workshop
Date & place: 15 Sept 2020, Poznan, Poland

Workshop Overview

In the past two decades, many advances have been made in computational movement analysis (CMA) as an important stream of research in GIScience. However, many challenges remain, such as proper incorporation of deep learning in movement data analytics, integration of trajectories with environmental and context data, multi-sensor data integration, scale-adaptive analysis, integration of analytical and visual methods, modeling and simulation of movement in complex coupled human-environment systems, passing from individual to collective movement, combining Lagrangian (GPS) with growing streams of Eulerian movement data (checkpoints, GSM, RFID, passive acoustic arrays for marine wildlife, wildlife camera traps), dealing with massive data in human mobility analytics, incl. privacy and legal considerations, and linking patterns back to behavioral events and processes.

Objectives. This workshop pursues three aims. First, to provide a platform to discuss the state of the art in this domain in the past decade. Second, to discuss the potential of data science methodologies to advance movement analytics in various domains such as human mobility and animal ecology. And third, to identify the key challenges for future research and (re-)define the research agenda towards advancing movement data science.

We invite submissions of either short position papers or research papers (1500 words) that describe new research ideas that fit the general theme of movement and mobility analytics. We are interested in work dealing with any type of moving object (people, animals, vehicles, virus, goods etc.).
