Job: Post-doc position in Geographic Information Science and Visualisation for Sustainability

Applications are now invited for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in the School of Computer Science at University College Dublin. This is a research focussed role in the area of geographic information science, geo-visualisation, and human-data interaction. The Postdoctoral Researcher will contribute to the research, design and implementation of spatial decision support systems for the CONSUS software architecture, which aims to support sustainable food production. A key part of this role will be to develop and evaluate visualisation tools that support user-centred interaction with complex data, in order to support effective decision making. The underlying software architecture is being developed by the overall CONSUS team and will support the harvesting, curation, conflation and access to diverse data together with actuation of data deriving components. It incorporates IoT (Internet of Things) technologies and aims to enable intelligent decision support services to the end user. The visualisation tools developed in this project are expected to explore the potential of data visualisation using both traditional geographic information system techniques and state of the art geo-located viewpoints; it will be context aware and will take account of location and temporal (e.g. seasonal) factors that influence crop management decisions.

The ultimate requirement is to demonstrate academic excellence through high-quality peer-reviewed papers and strong interaction with the research community.

This position is suitable for someone who will shortly finish their PhD or is in the early stages of their post-doctoral career.
