Call for Papers
SPATIAL COGNITION 2020 (SC 2020)
http://sc2020.lu.lv/

University of Latvia, Riga, Latvia
August 26-28, 2020

Spatial Cognition is concerned with the acquisition, development, representation, organization, and use of knowledge about spatial objects in real, virtual or hybrid environments and processed by human or artificial agents. Spatial Cognition includes research from different fields insofar as they are concerned with cognitive agents and space, such as cognitive and developmental psychology, linguistics, computer science, geography, cartography, philosophy, neuroscience, and education. Research issues in the field range from the investigation of human spatial cognition to mobile robot navigation, including topics such as wayfinding, spatial planning, spatial learning, internal and external representations of space, and communication of spatial information. SC 2020 will bring together researchers working on spatial cognition from all of these perspectives. The conference is single-track, and the final program will be the result of a selective review process. The program will include oral and poster presentations of refereed papers, and keynote talks.

Contributions are invited from all areas of spatial cognition, including, but not limited to:
Human, animal, and robot navigation
Development of spatial cognition
Space perception
Visuo spatial reasoning, (in particular, diagrammatic reasoning and maps)
Human-machine interactions in spatial environments
Neural basis of spatial cognition
Education of spatial cognition
Spatial learning and skills development
Spatial language and communication
Spatial problem solving and reasoning
Spatial assistance systems
Geospatial information systems
Representation and processing of spatial information
Biology-inspired agents in space
Human-robot interaction
Architecture and design cognition
Integration of different sensory modalities (e.g., smell, taste) into cognitive representation of space
Emotions and affects in spatial cognition.

SUBMISSIONS:

Submissions for Oral Presentations (short papers) presenting original and unpublished work are solicited in all areas of spatial cognition. Short papers should not exceed 1,200 words (including figures, tables, and references). Some short paper submissions may be accepted for poster presentation.

Submissions for Poster Presentations (abstracts) are solicited in all areas of spatial cognition. Poster abstracts should not exceed 500 words (including figures, tables, and references).

All submissions (short papers and abstracts) must be written in English, formatted according to Springer LNAI formatting guidelines (https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-guidelines), and submitted by February 1, 2020 via the EasyChair submission webpage that will be open November 29.

All submissions (short papers and abstracts) will be reviewed the Program Committee. Accepted submissions must be presented at the conference (at least one author of each submission must register by 15 June 2020 or the presentation/poster will be dropped from the program).

Accepted short papers and poster abstracts will be published online as a technical report. Some accepted papers will be invited for expansion and submission to an edited volume (Springer Springer Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence series of Spatial Cognition volumes: https://www.springer.com/series/1244). For an overview see: http://bscc.spatial-cognition.de/node/6). On submission, authors will be asked whether they would like to contribute an expanded paper to this publication outlet.
