Camera angle. The longer the focal length, the narrower the camera angle, the more the view is down between tall features (buildings or trees).

At the centre of a photograph no detail is hidden in "shadow".

At the edge of a photo much detail may be hidden. A hill has the same effect as a tall building. As the camera angle increases, the effect becomes worse.

The most common focal length is 152 mm (6"). When making photogrammetric plots a calibration report should be ordered because the focal length stamped on the photograph never tallies exactly with the real length.
