The Board of Directors of the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation (Vaduz), honouring the multifaceted contribution of its founder, Mrs Sylvia Ioannou, has decided to fund a Chair for Digital Humanities, one of only a few in Europe. The Sylvia Ioannou Chair for Digital Humanities at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Cyprus aims to establish interdepartmental degree programmes (master’s and doctoral) and to conduct research projects in the field of Digital Humanities. This discipline is on the rise internationally and involves the collaboration of the traditional Humanities with the continuously evolving areas of Digital Science and Technology.

The ceremony to counter-sign the Agreement for the establishment of the Chair took place in the Senate Conference Room of the University of Cyprus, Nicosia, on 23 November 2017.
