[ISHMap-List] Map Month May 2017 continues with more presentations and two exhibits

The Rocky Mountain Map Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the
study and appreciation of maps and other items of cartographic interest. The
Society was formed in 1991 and is based in Denver, Colorado.


 



May 2017 - Forthcoming Map Month Activities


 


 



 

Presentations: 5:30 PM at Denver Public Library (DPL), Conference Room B2.

 

DPL Exhibit: April 3-June 2.

 

CU-Boulder Exhibit: May 1-July 7.

 

All programs are free and open to the community.

	
DPL Presentations:

*  May 9: Marcia Yonemoto, Associate Professor at CU Boulder - "Maps as Art
and Maps as Information" - and - Tianlong Jiao, Curator of Asian Art at
Denver Art Museum - "The Selden Map and Ming China's Maritime World." 

*  May 16: Susan Schulten, Professor of History and Chair of the History
Department at University of Denver - "Art and Cartography." 

*  May 23: Ralph Ehrenberg, Chief of the Library of Congress Geography and
Map Division (retired) - "Follow Your Flight: Souvenir Airline Passenger
Maps, 1920s-1980s."

DPL Map Exhibit:

The Western History Department has opened their exhibit of original maps on
the fifth floor (Gates Exhibit Room), illustrating the power of art in maps.

CU-Boulder Map Exhibit:

"Native American Geographies" at the CU Earth Sciences & Map Library
features maps from CU's map collection, plus mixed-media artwork by Melanie
Yazzie from the Department of Art and Art History.
