The Rocky Mountain Map Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the
study and appreciation of maps and other items of cartographic interest. The
Society was formed in 1991 and is based in Denver, Colorado.

 


May 1 to July 1, 2016: RMMS 2016 Map Month - "Illusions, Delusions &
Confusions" 


 




 

All Monday evening lectures will be held on Conference Room B2 at the main
branch of Denver Public Library, starting at 5:30 PM.

 

These programs are free and open to the community.

	
Old maps of all parts of the world contain inaccuracies and myths.  Some
were caused by mis-perceptions or mis-interpretations of evidence, others
because of beliefs in legends.  No matter what their source, these map myths
had a significant effect upon history and cartography.  

Map Exhibits featuring various myths:

May 1 through June 30th:  Main Branch of Denver Public Library 

May 2 through July 1:  Map Library at the University of Colorado, Boulder

May 23:  Don McGuirk, "Sea of the West" - and - Wes Brown, "The Enormous
Mythical San Luis Lake of Colorado"

June 6:  Christopher Lane, "Cartographic Myths of the American West"
