The subject line is the title of an online article by Michael Blanding
in this Sunday's issue of the _Boston Globe_'s magazine:
http://www.bostonglobe.com/magazine/2014/05/23/trail-martha-vineyard-rare-map-thief/qbFFssloEpByBZ4vK14DgL/story.html
. The piece closes:

"...David Cobb, former curator of the Harvard Map Collection,
will never forget a conference he attended in Guatemala a few
years after Smiley’s thefts. Giving a talk about security to a
few dozen map collectors, he asked, “Do any of you think you
have stolen maps in your collection?” None of them raised their
        hands.

Next Cobb asked, “Would any of you refuse to purchase a stolen
map if you knew it was stolen?” Again, none of them raised their
        hands."

This piece was adapted from Blanding's soon-to-be-released work, already
known to many on this list, _The Map Thief_, shortly to be released by
Gotham Books.
