Mediterranean Sea

The Mediterranean Sea is an intercontinental sea between Eurasia and Africa. It is almost totally isolated from the other parts of the world ocean. The only connection between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean is the Strait of Gibraltar that is only 14 kilometres wide.
I classify Ligurian Sea, Tyrrhenian Sea, Ionian Sea, Adriatic Sea and Aegean Sea as parts of the Mediterranean Sea. The Marmara Sea, Black Sea and Sea of Azow can be classified as independent seas, because they are almost entirely isolated from the Mediterranean Sea.
The maximum depth of the Mediterranean Sea exceeds 5000 metres. The bottom of the sea can be divided into shelves, continental slopes and deep-sea floor.
