Company Profile

Until 1990 the Company was an integral part of the legal predecessor - Dunai Vasmű - founded in 1950.

The Technical and Drawing Department was established as soon as the maintenance units were started. This department supported the machine production by designing production equipment and tools and by supplying component drawings. Dunai Vasmű was continuously extended (blast furnaces, S-M steel mill, sintering plant, coke oven plant, hot rolling mill). The availability of maintenance drawings, as well as the planning and documentation of machinery modifications and reconstruction became increasingly important. At first there were only mechanical engineers in the team, but later it was supported by some architects and electrical engineers. Consequently, the team was able to solve more sophisticated design projects.

As an important stage of this process, the department was reorganised and became Maintenance and Design Department. After 1962 its field of activity was extended by the design of steel structures for agriculture and industry.

At that time the largest task of this unit was to secure the conditions to produce secondary and tertiary products what Dunai Vasmű were established. This meant, at the same time, that the Company became a design authority with national competence under the name: Dunai Vasmű Planning and Design Office (1 January, 1964). Its tasks were: complex and professional design of developments and reconstruction, design of standard and special building structures, supply of operational documentation.

The unit in change of steel structure design was transferred to the Construction Manufacturing Plant as an in dependent unit.

After the new Association Act took force in 1988, the Company looked forward to independence, which was finally realised on 1 January, 1990, when the DUNAFERR Engineering Co. Ltd. came into being.

Stock capital was 8.3 million HUF in which the employees share was 100 thousand HUF. The present capital is 13.7 million HUF in which Dunaferr Co. plc. holds 82% of the shares, the remaining 18% is owned by private persons and other associations.

The transformation was not just a simple change of the company's name and the possibility of the responsible direction, it presented the way to define Dunaferr Co. with some services which fit the market economy. It was the basis of the finding new business activities such as GIS, turn-key engineering, and documentation archiving.

It was clear that to give the correct answer to the challenges of new market conditions the firm should apply new technologies and equipment. So Dunaferr Co. have invested into a Computer Aided Designing system installed on 12 computers (which is a considerably big system in Hungary) and their Computer Aided Archiving and Information System - which uses the most up-to-date technology in this field.

With these investments the Company's largest power is its staff, which has a considerable knowledge and experience and continuously brings up the new generation of designers who will be able to imagine the largest projects, more complex technological processes and better Plants.

Designing
This is the basic activity of our office, in which we have more than 40 years experience

Our office is the general designer of Dunaferr Co. plc.

CAD and Geographical Information System (GIS)
In our CAD Studio, established in 1990, we started work with AutoCAD on 3 IBM computers. Now we have 12 PCs with high resolution graphics cards and monitors, A/0 size plotter and scanner, laser plotter, uninterruptable power sources, as well as AutoCAD 12, INTERGRAPH MicroStation and EPLAN software. We started the mapping and GIS activities in 1991, using our experiences in AutoCAD. Owing to special projects we soon had to find new and better solutions. In 1992 we found the INTERGRAPH Company. We have been using INTERGRAPH MicroStation since 1992.

In 1994 a big progress was made, as we we're committed in 3 main development projects

Turn-key Designing
In '93 we started a new business activity which proved to be very successful.
Our aim is to install and hand over the equipment and projects designed by our office. After examining the problems of the customer, our experts undertake the realisation of the whole project from discussing the idea to practical realisation.
Until now we are able to archive the satisfaction of our customers.

Documentation Archiving
On the basis of the instructions of 3M and using their equipment in '91 we installed our CAIS (Computer aided Archiving and Information System) of world standard, which is unique in EUROPE. In this way the identification of drawings can be recorded on microfilm cards and identification data can be stored in a database.
The computer aided drawing register developed by us make the systematisation of data requested by customers possible.
We can find documentation arranged in groups as requested.
In the laboratory about 100.000 pieces of documentations are saved. With the use of this service our customers can avoid:
