Dear All,
This morning's fact-finding article (link
<https://telex.hu/komplex/2024/10/08/plagium-tudomanyos-cikk-visszavonas-tanulmanygyar-obudai-egyetem>)
uses a case study involving researchers in Hungary to illustrate the new
practices that threaten researchers active in scientific publishing (in
Hungarian, but translate it, with Chrome). The lessons of the article are
difficult to briefly summarise, so it's worth a read!
A few points though, I would like to highlight:

   1. If you receive suspicious references (e.g. your work is cited in an
off-topic article), try to investigate and report it to the journal of the
article that contains the reference (before you get excited)!
   2. Check and ask your colleagues (supervisors) if you receive any
suspicious enquiries! Let's inform each other!
   3. Unfair actions to increase publication output can jeopardise the
whole research career (and not only your own, but also that of your
   co-authors)!
   4. Don't be tempted immediately if you receive an offer from an unknown
researcher or journal offering free or fast publication results.

All the best,

Gáspár Albert
