Dear students,
I would like to ask you for collaboration in the following task: Francisco Carlos Moreira Gomes (Brazilian PhD student spending this semester in the institute) developed an app entitled Extract Map History. Francisco asked to test its functionality and then evaluate it using a simple online questionnaire to be answered by clicks.
The project has its own website, available here: https://sites.google.com/view/extractmaphistoryen-us/home
>From here you can download the exe file to install it if you test it on a laptop. The mobile version does not need to be installed, a zip file can be downloaded and unzipped.
Francisco has prepared (scanned) some old Hungarian maps, you can select one of them for testing if you wish. Maps are available at: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1cTwWnvgqjRhlTN1EWOcBeTHid2bAZOfW?usp=drive_link
After testing, the online questionnaire is available here: https://forms.gle/Eqk2C8VgyeaRdiM28
I attach a Proposed test Activity.pdf file that Francisco wrote for us. Here he suggests three steps for testing, for each of them he has made a short video showing where to click, what to do in each step.
I followed the videos and tested the app. In particular, only one aspect caused me problems when entering the settlement names: to move (pan) on the old map within a zoom level, you have to click on the map with the left mouse button, hold the button down for a while and then move in the desired direction. You should not move as usual, after a quick click, because it could not detect it. I also had to get used to holding down the left mouse button for a few seconds and then moving the image slowly.
If you have any problems, Francisco can answer your questions via email at franciscocarlosmoreiragomes at gmail.com<mailto:franciscocarlosmoreiragomes at gmail.com>
Best regards,
Jesús Reyes
