Her main topic of research is the outer solar system, specifically planetary atmospheres and surfaces. She is the Deputy Project Scientist for NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto and the Deputy Principal Investigator for NASA’s Lucy mission. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:normal'><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:normal'>The New Horizons mission provided the first close-up images of Pluto and its moons in 2015. It is currently en route to encounter a small icy body in the outer solar system with the provisional name 2014 MU69. The spacecraft will return images and data on 2014 MU69 after its flyby in 2019.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:normal'><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:normal;text-autospace:none'>NASA’s Lucy mission was just chosen in a competitive process for flight in 2021. The mission will visit Trojan asteroids – objects that share an orbit with Jupiter.
