<br />will take place at the <font color="#0000FF"><b>Maritime Museum of the
Atlantic in Halifax</b></font>
<br />on <b>November 13-14, 2017.

<br />It will foreground the CANADA 150 celebrations with a look at the early
exploration and mapping of the territory that now forms the country from the
voyage of John Cabot in 1497 to the Treaty of 1763. Subjects that will be
addressed in the talks at the conference include the contributions of Indigenous
mapping and geographical knowledge to European cartography and reports; the role
of geographical myths in furthering exploration; techniques of exploration and
mapping; the evolution of the cartography of specific regions over time; and
how place and mapping influenced Canadian identity and culture. An exhibition of
selected early maps of Canada will accompany the conference. The conference is
being organized by Lauren Beck and Chet Van
Duzer.
