Moncacht-Apé told him of completing travel to the Pacific Ocean and back, likely in the late 17th or early 18th century, 100 years before Lewis and Clark. On his return to Paris, Le Page du Pratz published a book that included the story of this Yazoo Indian. How this account affected the maps of North America and perhaps the very route of Lewis and Clark will be the subject of this PowerPoint presentation.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span lang=X-NONE>Dr. Donald L. McGuirk Jr. is a retired physician with a keen interest in early world maps, cartographic myths, and early exploration of the New World. He is a founding member and former president of the Rocky Mountain Map Society. He has been a member of the Philip Lee Phillips Map Society since its inception and a member of the Society for the History of Discoveries for over thirty years. Dr. McGuirk is a member, in long standing, of the Texas Map Society and the Washington Map Society.
