    <pre wrap="">Mapping the Far South

This panel will celebrate the first visit of ICHC to the southern

hemisphere by bringing together papers about maps that place special

emphasis on the south or depict the southern polar regions. Proposals

that address any period in the history of cartography are welcome.

Subjects might include the reasons for the orientation of maps to the

south, pre-discovery cartography of the southern continent, maps of

exploration in the southern ocean, and the use of satellite imagery

for mapping Antarctica.

Please send the title and abstract (250 words or less) of your

proposed paper by October 1, 2016, to Chet Van Duzer,

Proposers of paper not accepted to the panel will have ample time to

submit their proposals directly to ICHC. Proposals accepted to the

panel will be submitted together to the organizers of ICHC. If the

organizers do not accept the panel, they will nevertheless consider

the individual papers for inclusion in the general program.
