at the Geography Department at UC Santa Barbara is hiring a postdoctoral research fellow with a background in Spatial Cognition, Data Visualization, Cartography, or Human-Computer Interaction. The successful candidate will be engaged in an NSF funded project
entitled: "Visualizing Motion: A Framework for the Cartography of Movement". The project aims to develop and evaluate cartographic theories and tools to understand how humans perceive movement patterns using different visualization forms. The postdoctoral
fellow will work with Dr. Somayeh Dodge and her team to develop visualization methods and evaluate the usability of cartographic techniques for mapping movement patterns and the interaction between individuals in space and time.<br>

Required qualifications:<br>
<ul>
<li>Ph.D. in Geography, Geographic Information Science, Computer Science, Cartography, Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, or other related disciplines.</li><li>Background in Cartography or Data Visualization</li></ul>
<br>
Preferred qualifications:<br>
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of experimental design for applied spatial cognition research</li><li>Knowledge of theories in visual perception and spatial cognition</li><li>Previous experience in the design and conduct of eye-tracking experiments</li><li>Previous experience in cartographic mapping and analysis of movement data</li><li>Proficiency in two or more of the following programming languages (Java, JavaScript, Processing, HTML, Python, R, etc.)</li><li>Familiarity with web and/or software development</li></ul>

The MOVE Lab at UCSB engages in conducting cutting-edge basic and applied research to study movement and spatiotemporal processes such as human mobility, animal movement, migration, disease diffusion, natural hazards (e.g. wildfires, hurricanes). Using large
