Doctoral research assistant position
Project: EMOtive: Affective and Effective Visual Displays

The Geographic Information Visualization and Analysis group at the University
of Zurich invites applications for a doctoral research assistant position in
Geographic Information Science/Geovisualization to work on a 3-year research
project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The highly motivated
applicant will be asked to design and evaluate cognitively inspired,
perceptually salient, and affectively responsive virtual reality displays for
effective and efficient spatio-temporal decision making in time critical
situations and under uncertainty conditions.
Applicants are required to have successfully completed a Masters degree in a
relevant area, e.g.,
Geography, Geoinformatics, Computer Science or Psychology/Cognitive/Affective
Science. You are interested in a scientific career with a focus on empirical
research and have solid knowledge of quantitative and qualitative
methodologies for ideally interactive and responsive virtual reality (3D)
display design, and respective empirical data collection and analysis. You
have programming skills and are confident in, for example, writing scripts to
perform multiple analyses. You have a proven ability to work independently on
guided projects, and are interested in presenting your research results orally
and in writing to a larger scientific audience. You have a good standard of
written and spoken English. Knowledge of German, whilst not required, would be
an advantage.

The position is housed in the UZH Geography Department and its Graduate School
of Geography. It is associated with its internationally reputed GIScience
Center and will start on January 15 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter.
For more background information about the research group, please visit us on
the Web athttp://www.geo.uzh.ch/giva. For informal inquiries about this
position, please contact Dr. Sara I. Fabrikant, Email: sara at geo.uzh.ch
(subject: PhD 3D), or by phone: +41-44-635-5150.

Apply digitally to: Ms. Lisa Büschlen, Geographic Information Visualization &
Analysis Unit, Department of Geography, University of Zurich, Winterthurerstr.
190 CH-8057 Zurich, Switzerland, Email: lisa.bueschlen at geo.uzh.ch (subject:
PhD 3D), phone: +41-44-635-5151. Review of applications containing a
motivation statement, a full CV, including transcripts and contact details of
referees, will begin December 15, 2015, and will continue until the position
is filled.
