Council and was accepted.

Report of Mapping Clinic in Italy
60 participants (all levels of experience) with 3 IOF instructors (TB, AD + Jorg
Luchsinger). There has been much foreign mapping in Italy. The Italian mapmakers
now have the experience to recognise the poor quality of much of this work. Good
base maps are difficult to obtain as it not permitted to send air photos out of
the country. Land access is free.
Instructors Kit
The text of the English version has been corrected. TB is working on the slides.
Publications
Survey Comparison
The MC intends to carry out research into survey for 0-maps. Comparison of survey
results of three areas ranging from Scandinavian to Middle European terrain undertaken
by a vary of surveyors will be published. This project will run simultaneously
with the next revision of the Drawing Specifications which is planned for the
period 1988-90.
The areas will be selected during Spring 1988, probably in NOR, SUI and BRD. Base
maps will be organised for the next meeting (Congress). The map should be 1:7500
with 5m contours, max. 500m square (FN to prepare the letter, TB repro, TK, TB,
AD to find the areas). Information will be circulated after the Congress with
survey planned for completion by November 1989.
Drawing Specifications
The next revision is due during the Congress period 1988-90.
The proposed timetable is:
Request for comments/proposals after the 1988 Congress.
MC meeting during the Winter 1988/89 to draw together comments.
Draft proposals at WOC '89.
Comments by Winter 1989/90 meeting. Final proposals to Congress in 1990.
WOC Rules
Maps from each WOC should be made available to the IOF Bulletin at the printing
run-on cost only.
1989 WOC
Following proposals made to the last MC meeting, SOFT repeated their request for
permission to be allowed to use a separate symbol for 'Kolbotn' (charcoal burning
area). The MC repated its feeling that the appearance of a Kolbotn in the terrain
is similar to other existing features (knoll, thicket, depression). To use a separate
symbol for a feature that appears the same as an existing feature/symbol would
be confusing to a competitor with no experience of this peculiar national symbol.

The Instructors Conference should alternate with an 'overseas' course. The proposed
budget is as follows:
1988 Courses - proposed DDR 3000
