Differential GPS

To improve accuracy and remove errors created by the US military, a technique known as differential GPS is used where a second transmission from a known fixed point transmits the error corrections to local users needed to calculate position accurately.

Having a GPS receiver linked to pen computer might be the Utopian idea of O-map making, but in reality our sport occurs in the forest and the accuracy of GPS transmission through the trees is not sufficient for orienteering maps.
