At first sight the three areas seem to be open and suitable for making a photogrammetric plot. The position of the sun affects the final picture quality. If the sun casts a shadow of any size, only the top example produces suitable photographs. The second example loses all ground detail through shadow and the third example loses ground cover on the slope. The operator views the image by variations in contrast, dark shadows produce little contrast.
