Evaluation of IOF events maps
Mountain Bike Orienteering World Championships 2005, Banská
Bystrica, Slovakia, 5-11 September
Map Commission's general comments (ISOM maps - long, relay, middle)
The terrains were very hilly; there was very few route choices on the courses
which caused dangerous situations occasionally (M21 up, W21 down on the same
time on an important narrow path).
General comments
- Local map specification was used instead of the international
(ISOM). It was not mentioned in the bulletins (the map samples shown there
were used normal standards), but all the maps consequently used the same (local)
standard.
- The drawing quality of the maps was very poor: all the curves were drawn
as polygon; there were not smooth lines - the maps looks like a very first
map of the drawer.
- The path symbols width are 0.60 and 0.40 mm, they've used 0.60 and 0.35
mm.
- The proper green values of forests are 30%, 60% - on the maps 20%, 50% were
used
