October 31. 1897 - The first non-military orienteering in Scandinavia in Nordmarka N of Oslo, Club Tjalve

March 17. 1901 - The first orienteering event in Sweden, in Sundbyberg N of Stockholm. They used an official map in scale 1:100 000.

1956 - Katrineholm, a forester made a fieldwork in 1:25 000 and in 1957 the map ha been published in colour.

1963 - 1:25 000 is the recommended scale (Karl Erik Eckerlid).

1965 - SOFT Map Committee organized a Map Clinic (tutors: Christer Palm and Sture Stark).

1966 - The first drawing course at Genelalstabens Litografiska Anstalt. The teacher was Christer Palm.

1966 - The first map made from special airphotos from 2000 m. The mapper was L. Ottosson and a Norman. 1967 - The first ISOM in Sweden.

1969 - The first international ISOM. The recommend scale is 1:20 000.

1977 - 1:15 000 - the new scale.

1979 - Special symbols for courses (Sweden and IOF). The creator is Kjell Larsson Trollhättan (1974-79).

1990 - The first digital map (OCAD).
