General aspects of generalization
Generalization
Generalization is "the reduction of detail or
simplification of reality". In cartography generalization refers to
geometric and thematic features of maps. The process of generalization
consists of selection, classification and simplification.

The purpose of a map is to create a wise copy of the reality to be helpful for orienteering and navigation in a certain area.
