[StipHu] Google Earth Engine introduction and tutorial

Dear Students,

Kalamkas Yessimkhanova, our PhD student is offering a short tutorial on the last two Mondays of the semester, 2 and 9 December, 2024.
The capacity of the computer lab is limited, so please register using the following form:

The class topics are the following:

Class 1: Introduction to Google Earth Engine and Basic Data Handling

  1.  Introduction to Google Earth Engine (GEE)

     *   Overview of GEE
     *   Setting up a GEE account
     *   Code editor interface: Console, Inspector, Map panel, Docs, and Assets.

  1.  Basic Data Types and Structures in GEE

     *   Variables and Data types (number, text, list, dictionary, commenting and print)
     *   GEE Object types (image, image collection, feature, feature collection, geometry)
     *   GEE Filters (selecting bands, filtering by region and time)

  1.  Visualization

     *   Simple visualization techniques (color palettes, setting min/max values)

  1.  Hands-On Exercise

     *   Displaying satellite data and visualizing NDVI


Class 2: Geospatial Analysis, Charting, and Exporting Data

  1.  Working with Climate data (ERA5-Land, CMIP6)

     *   Recap of the 1st class (loading data and filtering)

     *   Reducers (applying reducers to calculate mean, median, max, min temperature, precipitation)

     *   Functions (applying function for time series data)

  1.  Creating Chart

     *   Create chart for time series temperature data

  1.  Exporting

     *   Exporting options

  1.  Sharing results

     *   Creating GEE app

     *   Sharing scripts
