Thank you and best wishes, sara & Toru ~ ~ ~ Call for Submissions Spatial Cognition and Computation (SC&C) :: In Honor of Daniel R. Montello: his scholarship and forty years of contributions to Cognitive Geography :: :: Expected Date for Publication: End of 2026 / Beginning of 2027 :: Special Issue Editors: Sara Irina Fabrikant (sara.fabrikant at geo.uzh.ch) & Toru Ishikawa (toru.ishikawa at iniad.org) This special issue celebrates Professor Daniel Montello’s decades of contributions at the interface of geography and psychology. Since his earliest landmark publications appeared in the psychology literature in the late 1980s, Professor Montello, a trained environmental, cognitive, and developmental psychologist, has been trailblazing international and interdisciplinary spatial cogntion research to become an eniment (human) geographer. His empirical contriubtions to the understanding of fundamental geographic concepts such as distance, similarity, direction, scale, region, spatial uncertainty, etc. have advanced diverse research areas including spatial knowledge and cognitive maps, spatial learning and education, navigation and orientation, the cognition of maps and geographic information displays, cognitive ontologies of geographic features, environmental attitudes, and architectural psychology, as well as nature and urban psychology. Upon his retirement in June 2025 from teaching, this special issue celebrates the outstanding academic contributions of Professor Montello in the journal he has co-edited for many years. We invite original contributions from his students, collaborators, and thus anyone impacted and influenced by Prof. Montello’s multifaceted research. Topics of interest will broadly cover the themes of Spatial Cogntion and Computation, including but not limited to subjects related to his research and impact. Submissions of various types and of different lengths are welcomed (e.g., Research Articles, Review Articles, Rapid Communications, etc.). Please contact the special issue editors by email for questions and suggestions. Interested authors should send a manuscript title and a short abstract (about 250 words, including the authors’ names and affiliations) to the special issue editors by email by July 15, 2025 (see a complete publication timeline below).
