(ICA Conference 2001)

To

Ron Furness

Chairman ICA Commission on Marine Cartography

Dear Ron,

I was happy to hear, when I read your letter, that Michel Huet at the IHB was interested in our work. But I have not got an email or a letter from him yet.

I can report to you and to him too that we completed our work on the English/Hungarian version of IHO SP "Standardization of Undersea Feature Names" and I send you a copy of it. There are some parts, I think, that need some corrections. These are for example the list of the counties..., and what about the landlocked countries, like Hungary is..., end so on. Another one: there is a problem with the term "sill" too. The referenced book speaks about "sill depth" (that is some kinds of "saddle"), so the definition is different from the original one.

Help me please to complete my work, and I will send you the films to print it.

As I mentioned earlier, I spoke to Ervin Földi, the leader of the Hungarian Board on Geographical Names, who promised me to keep a discussion of our task to get an official agreement for publication. There was an official meeting at the end of March this year and I got that agreement. All the problems, that occurred, have solved.

My young friend, András Dutkó worked hard this year, but he have not completed his CD on the Multilingual Gazetteer of the Seas and Undersea Features yet.

But you can look for some parts of his work on Internet:

when you can find an Index which will help you.

I wish you and all the members of  ICA Commission on Marine Cartography nice weather  and succesful meeting in Beijing
