1. Welcome

The host, Mr. Klinghammer, welcomes the present members of the project „Multimedial History of Hungary and Finland on CD-ROM". In his role as current rector of the ELTE Budapest he also emphasizes, the particular readiness of his institute and the university as a whole regarding the project‘s cooperation. Mr. Fischer expresses his gratitude about the hospitality and the preparatory measures, that lead to the expectation of a successful meeting.

2. Explanation of the note from 20th april 2001

After the first meeting from the 6th/7th april 2001, Mr. Fischer had a intensive conversation about budgetoriented citems with the official in charge at the University of Hamburg. A note about this conversation had been sent to all of the project‘s participants. The individual topics were specified once more in detail.

3. Principal decision about the system of the multimedial design

Mr. Pápay refered about several conversations, he had had in the meantime with experts at the University of Rostock and at the Rostock branch-office of the Fraunhofer-Institute for Graphic Data Processing, and shortly presented the systems, that can be utilized for the multimedial design of the CD-ROM. After a very comprehensive discussion about the respective strenghts and weaknesses of the various systems (Director, XML, html, PowerPoint), as well as the demands, resulting from the tight schedule, it is determined, that the html-system is to be used (Decision 2/1).

4. Structural composition

As material for the discussion about the structural composition of the CD-ROM, the following papers were taken as basis:

  1. Graphical proposal of structure by Mr. Pápay
  2. Proposal of structure for chapter 8: Kádár - Kekkonen, 1945-1989 by Mr. Fischer
  3. Conceptual chart for the period 1945-1956 by Mr. Halmesvirta
All three notes were thoroughly explained and discussed. During this process, it became evident that the proposals of Mr. Pápay and Mr. Fischer were quite similar in their structural organisation, while Mr. Halmesvirta‘s paper is understood more in naming decisive aspects about the comparative introduction of finish and hungarian history during the concerning period.

The principal decision about the history of Finland and Hungary on 2 CD-ROMs, that were layed down at the meeting in Hamburg, is modified as follows:
Decision 2/2: The complete history of Finland and Hungary will be presented in german on one CD, in english on the other.

During the discussion the following decisions were made:

Decision 2/3: The proposals of structural composition made by Mr. Pápay and Mr. Fischer are accepted. Meanwhile, a revised graphical representation of the structural organisation on basis of the discussion, which shows an overview about the important elements on each page (cover of the CD-ROM, cover of each period, cover of each period‘s chapter), will be sent extra.

Decision 2/4: The cover of the CD-ROM is to include the following elements:

Decision 2/5: The cover of each period is to include the following elements: Decision 2/6: The chronology of a period includes a common timeline, that permits a direct synopsis of finish and hungarian history. (Graphical sketch by Mr. Fischer)

Decision 2/7: Each period is divided into numerous chapters. From this level on, the presentation will comprise Hungary and Finland seperately. The cover of each chapter includes the following elements:

Decision 2/8: Each chapter of a period will further divided into sub-chapters. On this level, the page will contain the following elements: Decision 2/9: The CD-ROM recieves an alphabeticly arranged encyclopedia on the level of the main cover. The encyclopedia is to include the following elements: Decision 2/10: The encyclopedia about the hungarion section will be finished by student assistants in Rostock under direction of Mr. Pápay. He will be assisted by Mr. Fischer in Hamburg. The finish section will be written in Jyväskylä.

5. Design of basic maps

After a brief discussion about the pros and contras on maps as gif-files or jpg-files and after a fundamental understanding about the uniformity in the basic design of maps, it is decided to utilize the following maps (decision 2/11):

In context of mapdesign, further details are disussed and determined:

6. Graphic design

Mr. Pápay refers that he led detailed conversations about the graphic design at the branch-office Rostock of the Fraunhofer-Institute for Graphic Data Processing. The institute offers to design the crucial elements of the CD-ROM (Cover, buttons, covers of periods and chapters, chronology, color design, etc.) for a fee of 6 - 8.000 DM. Mr. Kuukka notices that there also exists the possibility of Design in Jyväskylä. (A first suggestion is presented in the Internet, at:
www.multimedia.jyu.fi/fihu/modell.html) After consulting the colleague in question, Timo Sirviö, Mr. Kuukka reports that Mr. Sirviö would take on the design for a fee of 4 - 6.000 FIM. It is decided that the Fraunhofer-Institute as well as the finish colleague are charged to develop a graphic design. (Decision 2/13). Both will get the same materials. The outline should be ready until end of May, as there will be enough time left to enter the corresponding dates for the prototype chapter. The final decision about the graphic design will be made at the meeting in Jyväskylä.

7. Tasks and dates

The following distribution of tasks and corresponding dates are fixed during the discussion (Decision 2/14):

8. Requirements

An exact estimation about the requirement of scientific work contracts, student assistants, etc. is not possible at this time. Hence, only requirements until the Meeting in Jyväskylä, 15.-17.06.2001 are named and fixed (Decision 2/15):

9. Various points of interest

During discussion, a number of further problems was discussed shortly. The results and decisions of these are as follows:
