Pseudocylindrical and miscellaneous projections
Pseudocylindrical projections have nothing to do with cylinders. The only similarity to cylindrical projections is that parallel lines are straight. The projections mentioned here are frequently used when the whole surface of the Earth is portrayed.
The Hammer projection is derived from a transverse equal-area azimuthal projection. If you have a Flash plugin installed in your browser, you can click here to see an animation!
