Introduction

This chapter provides information for computer cartography. Cartographers have to integrate these kind of knowledge to their "toolbar". Computer is a tool, like a drawing pen was some ten years ago, but it is much more complicated and there are much more available variations.

About thirty years ago very few cartographer have even used the term file connecting with computer technology. It is so basic term like a character (letter) in word processing.

Each kind of information is possible to store in computer systems. The graphic information can be of all kinds according to the needs of different speciality: design, word processing, engineering, art, printing, cartography, GIS.
