Vít Voženílek


Mr. Assoc.Prof. Dr. Vít Voženílek, PhD. is a teacher of the Palacký University in Olomouc (Czech Republic).

He graduated at the Faculty of Science of the Masaryk University in Brno in 1988 - geography and mathematics. Since 1989 he has worked as an internal aspirant at the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Science of Palacky University in Olomouc. Since 1990 he has worked as a lecturer, since 1993 as a senior lecturer. He was interested in GIS and computer applications in geography, geomorphological research and thematic cartography. He participated in many national and international projects. In 1993 he worked in dr. Jonathan Raper´s research team at Birkbeck College University of London for 6 months. In 1994 he established ECO-GIS Centre at Palacky University in Olomouc. Now it is a laboratory for digital data processing in GIS and since the beginning he is its scientific supervisor. In 1994 he lectured GIS at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (Poland). Since 1996 he is an associate professor of physical geography on the Faculty of Science of the Palacky University in Olomouc and since 2002 the head of the Department of Geoinformatics.

He published more than 100 scientific articles, he is the author of 4 university textbooks, four textbooks of geography for grammar schools and the editor of the book „Digital data in information systems“. He is chairman of the Central Moravian Division of the Czech Geographical Society (CGS) and chairman of its Cartographical Group, member of the editorial board of the Journal of CGS, member of the Executive Commettee of the Czech Association for Geoinformatics, and secretary-general of the Cartographic Society of the Czech Republic. In 1995, 1997 and 1999 he organized three GIS and cartographic conferences in Olomouc.
